We are delighted to introduce to you two of our new team members. Greg Harnish offers flexible general counsel services to clients, including as General Counsel to SkyLaw. Kevin Reed brings a wealth of experience as our Strategic Advisor.

Greg and Kevin have seamlessly integrated into our team and are highly regarded for their expertise and good nature. They bring unbridled enthusiasm to our firm projects and to our new office. It is hard to arrive at the office before they do in the morning.

Greg Harnish – General Counsel

Greg Harnish recently joined us as the latest member of SkyCounsel! Aside from bringing 22 years of legal experience to the team, Greg has also known both Kevin West and Michael Lee for almost as long, since their days at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg. It’s like getting the band back together!

Having spent the past 15 years as in-house counsel, Greg brings a unique client-side perspective to his practice. He is a true general counsel, having advised clients on matters ranging from operational contracts and risk programs to fundamental strategic M&A transactions and high-stakes litigation. He has been internal counsel for Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, Anson Funds (a cutting-edge cross-border hedge fund), and The Stronach Group. Through these roles, Greg has learned that the key to being a valued and valuable counsel is to understand the nature, focus and needs of the business, and to deliver advice appropriate to the stage and risk tolerance of the enterprise.

Greg is thrilled to be supporting SkyLaw clients on transactional and governance matters, and providing fractional general counsel services to clients who want the “down the hall” service of an in-house counsel on a bespoke basis. And we’re happy to say that we’re Client #1 for his general counsel services!

Kevin D. Reed – Strategic Advisor

Kevin Reed is SkyLaw’s Strategic Advisor. Kevin is deeply embedded within our office and provides advice to our team and our clients based on his decades of experience. He is regularly meeting with our team members to understand and analyze our processes and help chart a path for our growth as we scale up our service offerings.

Kevin is a multifaceted leader with over 25 years of experience blending entrepreneurship, diplomacy, philanthropy, and his passion for sports. From founding and steering multiple investment and engineering firms, co-founding a Canadian Trust Company, serving in honorary military and diplomatic roles, to supporting community initiatives and athletic excellence, he exemplifies strategic leadership and spirited involvement.

As our Strategic Advisor, Kevin is actively participating in the firm to ensure we are equipped to navigate complex transactions with a focus on the defence and national security sectors. Kevin is also a partner at RF Piper, a financial advisory firm, as well as the current President & COO of DSR Bank Development, a multilateral financial institution that is being created and has an internal security mission. In his role at DSR, Kevin was quoted in this week’s National Post article making the case for the bank in light of the current geopolitical situation. In addition, the Canadian government has recently announced a significant increase in military spending, and with Kevin’s extensive knowledge of the military, SkyLaw is well-positioned to advise fast-growing tech, manufacturing and services businesses in that industry.

Kevin Reed has been a long-time friend of the firm ever since he connected with Kevin West, as is so often the case in Canada: at the hockey rink. Kevin and Kevin coached their daughters’ Leaside hockey team nearly a decade ago. It’s wonderful to be reunited all these years later, even though the SkyLaw team is still trying to figure out the best way to manage the confusion of having two Kevins at the firm.
